AGRIBUSINESS (FOOD SECURITY)
Here
our Company is pursuing food security through major agriculture related
investments in horticulture, floriculture, animal husbandry, plant cultivation,
processing and value addition, storage and logistics, training
and development, etc. that directly contribute to the revenues of the company
as well as support the communities in which it operates in.
Our
company has applied for the declaration of Kieni
agricultural area as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), which once it is declared,
our company will undertake a macro size development program of the SEZ, known
as “Horticultural Commercialization of Smallholder Farmers (HCSF)",
for the development of horticulture for local and export markets. Under this
proposed HCSF program, we plan to partner with and support up to Fifty Thousand
(50,000) smallholder farmers who own viable agricultural land holdings of up to
1 Ha (10,000m2), each.
By
utilizing the numerous tax-benefits of the SEZ, and by partnering with various
Private Sector Participants, Development Donor Organizations (DDOs),
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and by mobilization of capital resources
through Foreign Direct Investments (FDI’s), we will provide the
smallholder farmers with solar-powered, hydro-phonic based greenhouse
technology, drip irrigation water technology, seed inputs, organic fertilizers,
pesticides, specialized Israeli-based hands-on training and development, direct
market linkages to horticultural export markets, as well as post-harvest
support.
Through
various CSR initiatives, we will support the development of health centres, hospitals, education facilities, schools and
colleges, as well as infrastructure development (housing, water, roads,
electricity, energy, waste management, etc), within
the proposed SEZ. The existing air terminals infrastructure to facilitate
faster air-based cargo transport will be improved.
This
proposed SEZ measures approximately 1,092 Square Kilometers and is an
agricultural plain in Nyeri County within the Republic of Kenya, located
between the Aberdare Ranges and Mount Kenya.
This
proposed SEZ initiative will have an immense socioeconomic impact on the local
community, the wider Nyeri county and the national economy of Kenya, as a
whole.
